Declarations— The Human Rights Podcast

Declarations: The Human Rights Podcast is launching its eighth season! This season, we want to ask: Who are human rights for? Where is the ‘human’ in human rights? These questions arise from considering and thinking about the current human rights discourse where human rights and human rights language are being employed to advocate for greater rights protection, but simultaneously being used to restrict basic rights and freedom. Modern human rights (at least the dominant Western narrative), originated post the horrors of the two world wars, but are they still useful in that form and conception from 75 years ago? As we celebrate 75 years of the UDHR (10 December 2023), we ask how the concept and practice of human rights can remain fit-for-purpose and evolve with modern needs. How can we use human rights to continue to drive a message and practice of hope?
