Centre of Governance & Human Rights (CGHR)

Declarations Podcast

* Note: Deadline for applications has been extended and is now due on 23 October *

Declarations: The Human Rights Podcast is recruiting a brilliant and inclusive new team of volunteers to help produce accessible, critical content about human rights for our global and diverse listenership.

As part of the Declarations team, you will have the opportunity to shape the podcast’s orientation, guests and content. Now entering Season 7, Declarations has a back catalogue of more than 70 episodes on topics like racial equality in the United Kingdom, petro-capitalism in Nigeria, and Europe’s missing migrant children. Our previous guests are activists, practitioners and academic experts, like Daze Aghaji, Ha-Joon Chang, and Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina. Declarations is run out of the Centre of Governance and Human Rights (CGHR) at Cambridge POLIS.

Applicants can be any member of the university, from undergrads to MPhils, PhDs or distinguished professors, politics junkies or physicists. What’s important is your passion for human rights, social justice and podcasts. Previous experience is welcome, but not necessary. Commitment to diversity is a must. People from underrepresented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Check out previous episodes on Apple PodcastsSpotify, or wherever you listen. You can also find us on TwitterFacebook, and our website.

Open positions:

Communications Manager: You will design creative outreach campaigns and run social media. This includes our long-term branding vision and short-term weekly episode marketing. You will conduct quarterly social media analytics and help to grow our audience base across platforms. Experience with Adobe suite and design skills are desired.

Panellist (max. 6): You will join our rotating cast of articulate voices, who are passionate about human rights. You brainstorm topics, organise guests, and bring great questions to our recording studio.

Sound Editor: You will ensure that the audio quality of the podcast is of the highest possible level. As part of your tasks, you will sound edit each episode and provide support in related aspects such as recording equipment. Experience with sound editing/production is required.

Shownotes Writer: You write show notes to complement each episode. These companion pieces summarize the best points, list references mentioned, and give more background information or a unique perspective the episode didn’t cover. You will use SEO and work with the comms team to ensure the notes are getting enough traction.
