We are inviting applications for part-time, volunteer research assistants to support the Banned Books Project housed within the CRASSH Academic Freedoms Research Network. This is an exciting opportunity for students to investigate the political economy of banned book circulation, networks behind preserving banned books, and materiality of banned books. The aims of this project are twofold, first to map empirics onto an interactive interface, and second to bridge interdisciplinary perspectives on the topic.
Responsibilities may include:
– Contributing to literature reviews and case study research;
– Assisting with data collection and organisation;
– Reviewing the theoretical scaffolding around the project.
Applications from candidates with backgrounds in relevant disciplines, with experience in various research methods, are invited, but previous research experience is not a requirement. Researchers will be provided with guidelines and support throughout the process. While there will be certain expectations for deliverables, this will be a flexible role, adaptable to different schedules.
Application deadline: Saturday, 18 October 2025, midnight. Interview dates will be emailed to shortlisted applicants.
