Join us for the launch of The Oxford Handbook of Peaceful Assembly, a pioneering new volume on protest and the right of peaceful assembly.
The Oxford Handbook of Peaceful Assembly examines assembly as a distinct political and social practice that sits uneasily at the heart of the modern state, at times posing a threat to the political status quo. It brings together a multidisciplinary group of experts—lawyers, political theorists, sociologists, anthropologists, and historians—to offer a critical, international overview of the field.
Speakers include:
- Gina Romero, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association
- Martha Spurrier, British barrister, human rights campaigner, and former Director of Liberty
The evening’s book launch will follow an all-day international symposium in Cambridge on protest and peaceful assembly with leading scholars and rights advocates.
