CGHR Research Group: “A murdered journalist and the puncturing of a culture of impunity in Burkina Faso: the pursuit of justice for Norbert Zongo”.

In this presentation, Dr. Thomas Probert—who has for the past three years been researching the impact of national commissions of inquiry in Africa—will introduce the Government of Burkina Faso’s response to French authorities who acted on a six-month-old international arrest warrant and arrested the brother of the former President of Burkina Fast. Dr. Probert explores its reception, work, and impact, and then trace the way in which this marked the beginning of a two-decade-long process of insisting upon justice for a flagrant violation of the right to life.
