CGHR Practitioner Series 2026 launch event with Dr Joan Donovan

On 28 January 2026, CGHR kicked off our 2026 Practitioner Series with Dr Joan Donovan, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Emerging Studies at Boston University and founder of The Critical Internet Studies, a non-profit dedicated to research and educational programming around emerging technologies and the paradoxes of innovation.
For this talk, Dr Donovan spoke candidly about her research in the roles of disinformation campaigns and networked incitement as powerful forces for advancing far-right sentiment in the United States. She also spoke about the increasing influence of corporate investment in technology studies, and the importance of upholding a principled relation to truth for researchers and practitioners in the field.
Led by the Student Group, this session was moderated by MPhil Digital Humanities student Hayley Wu.
