Postdoc Research Trip to Kerala
Our postdoctoral scholar, Ashwin, undertook a research trip to Kerala, India during the Lent Term for primary research on his postdoctoral project on algorithmic governance and discretion. During his fieldwork, he interacted with police personnel developing AI-enabled facial recognition systems for everyday policing, public sector enterprises developing automated traffic enforcement systems, and academicians developing capacity-building workshops related to e-governance programmes for state functionaries.
He also documented the landscape of algorithmic transformation in various arms of the state, including ongoing policies in the departments of Industries, Transport, Education and various police departments.

Building on this research, Ashwin presented his research findings at workshops and conferences like ‘Global Southing Internet, Data and AI Studies’ at Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, and ‘Culture, Crime and Global Challenges’ at Utrecht University.
During Easter term, Ashwin plans to incorporate feedback received during these presentations and publish his findings in academic journals to further disseminate his work. We wish him all the best in his writings and reflections!
