CGHR had its annual Welcome Drinks reception on the evening of Wednesday, 18 October 2023. The Centre’s Co-Directors Dr Ella McPherson and Dr Sharath Srinivasan welcomed old friends and new students to the 2023-24 academic year at CGHR. The Centre has an exciting term ahead, with key events and opportunities such as the Student Group, the Digital Verification Corps, the Declarations Podcast, a CGHR Postdoctoral Scholar position and the launch of the Provocations for Tech Design & Human Rights project and game – which the Co-Directors and the Postdoctoral Scholar, Dr Sebastian Lehuede, developed as part of their ongoing fellowships at Harvard’s Carr Center for Human Rights Policy. A key theme for CGHR this year is the freedom of assembly, which Ella, Sharath and Sebastian have been working on through scholarship, policy and praxis. The core team of CGHR has come to see the Centre as an assembly of its own, through its gatherings, its collective solidarity, and its actions towards social change. CGHR invites friends and colleagues to converse, convene and collaborate with them during the year ahead.
