Podcasting and Social Justice: A Conversation

On Wednesday, 1 March 2023, we invited students and the broader Cambridge community to hold a conversation with human rights podcasters Matt Mahmoudi and Eleanor Drage. Matt and Eleanor shared with us about the opportunities and challenges offered by podcasting in the struggle for human rights.

Matt drew from his experience working with Amnesty International and lectureship with Cambridge Sociology. Meanwhile, Eleanor, a researcher at the University of Cambridge Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, spoke to us largely about feminist ideas behind the effort to make artificial intelligence safer for everyone. Elanor is also the co-host of The Good Robot Podcast, where she interviews top scholars and technologists about AI ethics, has appeared on popular shows such as The Guilty Feminist, and is a TikToker for All The Citizens’ data rights channel.

This event was organised by Declarations— The Human Rights Podcast, a student-led initiative convened by CGHR. At CGHR we are reimagining how justice, solidarity and citizen voice can flourish with or against technology, and this event contributed to our collective knowledge in this direction.
